The 4th round of the East Devon Junior Badminton League was played on the 24^th March. Isca A, who play in Championship A won on the day and also finished first in the league, winning it by 194 points. Isca B, who play in Championship B also won on the day and finished second in the league just 8 points behind Ottery

Hi All

Well done to the following people who passed the Young Officials Award

Lauren Winsor, Adam Brown, Alex Staniforth, Nicola Sillifant, Matt Knight and Ben Greenaway

The 3^rd round of East Devon Junior Badminton League were played on the 25^th February at Colyton. In Championship A Isca A lost to Colyton A by 11 points, we than went on to beat Chumleigh A by 26 points. Chumleigh then beat Colyton. Isca A finished 2^nd on the day and are 116 points ahead of Colyton.

The b team (which had a lot of the regular players missing) lost to Ottery by 5 points and then beat queens by 111 and finished 2nd on the day. We are now 12 points behind Ottery

Under 13s Team Challenge

Congratulations to the Devon u13s who have reached the finals of the team challenge. Isca had 2 players in this team, Robyn Bowman and Lucy Byles.

Cornwall Silver Tournament

Congratulations to Robyn Bowman, who won bronze in the singles and gold in the doubles. Congratulations also to Kathryn Brown, who took silver in the doubles.

East Devon junior Badminton League

The second match was played on the 12^th November with Isca A in Championship A and Isca B in Championship B. The B team beat Queen C and lost to Ottery. However Ottery had no u13 girls and played a boy in some of the matches as well as using some of our girls. The B team finished in first place on the day and was only 1 point behind Ottery in the league. The A team won both their matches against Chumleigh and Col/Hon. Col/Hon also borrowed some of our girls for some matches as they only had 1 U13 girl. Kavisha Mandalia beat 2 county players at this tournament and was asked to try out for the u15 county squad which she has now been asked to join.

Term Dates

The first date back after the Christmas holidays will be 4^th January for the Wednesday group and 6^th January for the Friday groups.

Welcome back, I hope you all had a nice summer and are fully refreshed for the new season. Below is some information to keep you informed about the club.

Club Membership

The second and third groups are now full with people on waiting lists for both. Please do not bring any new people along to these sessions without talking to Darren, Chris or Graham first. There are some places available in the first sessions.

In the Chulmleigh handicap invitation tournament

At the Somerset tournament

Ben Greenaway won the boys under 14s doubles and was runner up in the under 14s boys singles

Other coaching

Dan Corby who is a former England player and currently coaches the Isca Wednesday group as well as some session at Cranford BC, is now living in Exeter and is offering individual/small group coaching sessions. The price is £15 per hour + the hire of the hall and he will coach up to 4 people for that price. If anyone is interested please contact him at dancorby@aol.com or phone him on 07736371393

Helen Ward is a former England player and is head coach for Exeter University, the performance center and Queens BC. All coaching sessions would be at the University, Individual coaching costs £15 per hour, plus the court cost at the University which is £6.50 (peak time), £5 (off peak) or Junior membership costs £40 per year which makes a badminton court cost £3 peak and £1.20 off peak. Peak is after 3pm Mon-Fri and all day weekends. Off peak is before 3pm Mon -Fri.

Group coaching costs £20 per hour (up to 4 players) and one person will need to be a member to get the court at membership rate or pay for it at a non-member tariff.Please contact her at H.L.Ward@exeter.ac.uk or phone her on 07764189880

Monday Night Badminton Club

There is a club that runs on a Monday night at St. Lukes High School in partnership with Isca Juniors which is coached by Helen Ward. The county has decided not to run the cells anymore

.East Devon Junior Badminton League

Isca Juniors should have 2 teams in the Premiership this season but because the other teams in that league can only fulfill 1 fixture it has been decided to put both teams into the Championship so that our teams will get to play 4 fixtures.

The dates are (all to be confirmed)

1. Championship 1 Saturday 22^nd October at 12 noon Chumleigh
2. Championship 2 Saturday 12^th November at 12 noon Isca
3. Championship 3 Saturday 18^th February at 12 noon Colyton
4. Championship 4 Saturday 24^th March at 12 noon Chumleigh

We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with things such as doing the register, feeding or becoming coaches. We would need to get you CRB checked which we would organize. If you are interested in doing any of these please speak to Darren, Chris or Graham

Just a brief message to keep you informed of a few things.

Teams

Isca had 2 teams playing in the East Devon Junior Badminton League this season. 1 in the Premiership and 1 in the Chamionship. Due to a lack of dates only 1 match was played in the Premiership with Isca A coming 3^rd out of 4 teams, around 100 points behind 1^st place and 300 points above 4^th place. There were 4 matches in the chamionship with Isca B winning each match and finishing 1^st in the league. I like to thank all the members who played for the teams.

Tournaments

Isca Juniors had a very successful season in the tournaments with our members winning at least 86 trophies. Well done to everyone who played. 

Devon Games to Inspire 2011

The Devon games to Inspire were played on Saturday 18^th June. The tournament brings players from all over the county to play for their respective local authorities. The team from Exeter had mainly players from Isca. Both the Girls and Boys teams won gold. Well done to everyone who played. I would  also like to say well done to players from Isca who were playing for other authorities, most of them were playing as the number 1 in those teams.

Vouchers

I would like to thank eveyone who gave Tescos and Sainsburys vouchers. We have now ordered equipment. Some of the things we have ordered are grips, targets,  rackets, kit bags, speed hurdels and medals.

Membership

Please note that the second and third groups are now full so if you know anyone who wishes to join please let them know they need to contact us first so we can put them on a waiting list. If you do not intend to join us next season please let us know so we can invite people on the waiting list to take your place.

Devon Games to Inspire

The Devon Games is a team based event where school children from all over the county come and compete in lots of different sports with over 1000 children taking part. In the Badminton event there were teams from 8 different local authorities. In the girls badminton tournament the Exeter team won their box without dropping a game which put them into a final match against a very strong East Devon team. In the match we won 1 singles game and lost 1 singles game which meant it was all down to the last game which was a doubles game. In a very close game which ended 21-20, Exeter won the gold medal

In the boys badminton tournament the Exeter Team only dropped 1 game on their way to winning their box which put them in to the final match against Plymouth who had the strongest player of all the teams in their squad. Again, we won 1 singles game and lost 1 singles game so it all went down to the final doubles game. In that game, even though one of our players played half the game with a broken racket, Exeter won 21-11 and we won the gold medal

The players were, Kavisha Mandalia, Suzanna Wakely, Bethany Gardener, Nadia Kellie-Smith, Roslyn Mitchell, Ben Greenaway, Joshua Awcock, Adam Brown, Jonathan Hughes and Matthew Ash
